About K9 Detect and Find Ireland
Rachell Morris is the first mantrailing and scent-specific trailing instructor in Ireland. Rachell is the head instructor for scent-specific trailing and cadaver dog training. Rachell offers comprehensive instruction for all levels of experience.
Rachell Morris is originally from Telford in Shropshire, UK. She returned to her mother’s homeland, Ireland, more than 30 years ago. Rachell now resides in County Wexford, living with her partner Colm and two children, Gerard and Kaiden.
Rachell’s love of animals shone at an early age! At seven months old, Bess, a black Labrador, used to sit next to Rachell allowing her to hold onto her and walk together - until Bess got fed up and sat down.
Rachell learned how to read animals’ body language from an early age, and this helped her whilst working with animals. Rachell has worked with many species of animals throughout her life. She has worked with horses from 4 years of age, from farm animals to exotic large mammals including elephants, hippos, rhinos, large cats, polar bears and primates whilst she worked at Dublin Zoo.
Being able to read an animal’s body language comes naturally to Rachell. This skill is essential for training and working with general purpose lowland search dogs and conservation dogs as one of the key factors is being able to read the dog’s body language. When instructing and training teams, Rachell can read each dog’s body language from the first day and with guidance handlers very quickly learn how to read their own dog’s body language.
After many years working in search and rescue, Rachell decided to develop her own agency Wexford K9 Search and Rescue (WK9SAR). WK9SAR covers all aspects of lowland search and is also a human remains detection dog unit separate to K9 Detect and Find Ireland. At present the dog unit comprises of two operational search dogs, Rocco and Riley. There are also trainee scent-specific trailing and cadaver teams working hard with Rachell to become professional search and rescue dog teams..
